Season’s greetings from Opalbond

For me, ending the year is usually a time for reflection. Timely then that The International Food & Drink Event (IFE) has just shared the findings of its research into trends impacting food and drink businesses in 2018.

According their survey of 216 members of their network, ‘plant-based food and veganism, the free-from movement and booze-free beverages’ are the top three trends impacting on businesses such as ours. This certainly rings true for Opalbond where I’ve been working closely with my customers all year on private-label products centred around low-sugar, plant-based or high-protein innovation.

For Opalbond, these trends are set to continue well into 2019 and this is clearly the case for many other businesses. I was interested to note, for example, that Tesco has its very own ‘Director of Plant-Based Food Innovation’!

As the year draws to a close, I would like to wish my customers, suppliers and colleagues all the very best for a food-centred and well-deserved festive break. I look forward to working with you all in 2019.
