June 2019 saw me notch up fifteen years at Opalbond. To celebrate, I’d usually bring in cakes from somewhere like Maison Clement, Cambridge’s finest artisan bakery, but today we’re much more focused on low sugar than we were in 2004 …

Back then, Opalbond’s focus was on single ingredients and raw materials. Our constant focus on meeting customer needs has seen me help expand the business to include a wide range of innovative great tasting finished products. I still find the food industry just as fascinating and dynamic as I ever did, and I particularly find working with healthcare and sports nutrition brands to be rewarding and intense.

I can’t remember what I was reading in 2004 but these days I’m fascinated by health-related articles, such as this from the New York Times, which describes a study comparing the left ventricle of elite runners and elite swimmers. I know, I need to get out more …

And I have. Since my blog in March, ‘It’s About Time’, where I shared my reflections on the Cambridge Half Marathon, I’ve continued the running. I’ve also followed up my May blog, ‘An Open Water Swim’, by continuing to immerse myself in rivers, lakes and the Jesus Green Lido. While certainly not an elite athlete, I’m hoping my left ventricle is operating suitably efficiently to see me through many more interesting years at Opalbond …
